Why did google get rid of the firefox start page?

yeah, i have been getting a 404 on/off for a couple days. i just changed it to the real google just now because it seems to be totally dead now
 
they did? I wasn't aware of that. I use my personalized google homepage so the firefox start page hasn't come up since install
