Why did Creative Labs get out of the market?

I loved their cards. They were high quality, cheap, and almost always the fastest of their generation. Most importantly, they were a solid company whom you know would stand behind their product.

Now all we're left with companies like.....Elsa, Gainward, Visiontek. I'm sorry, but I don't think I'd buy a PRINTER CABLE from these guys much less a $400 piece of computer hardware.

What's the deal? Why doesn't Nvidia just selll directly to the market with their 3DFX brand or something?

Nvidia won't market directly to the market because that will significantly slow them down. one of the main reasons why Nvidia has had upgrades every 6 months is because they do not work on that sort of thing. ATI has realized this and will begin to do the same thing. One of the reasons 3dfx died out was because they had constant delays of their cards, which probably would not have happened if they sold their chipsets to other companies.

and I don't know much about the companies you listed, but I always thought that Elsa was a very good video card manufacturer, which was the reason Nvidia chose them and only them to ship the Quadro products?

Nvidia to sell direct! You mean like 3dfx sold direct .... and went broke??

You do have to remember that it is Nvidia that makes the drivers, so there isn't much chance of being left without drivers. Anyway Creative never make the best/fastest cards Canopus / Hercules do.
