Why did Bud bury Beatrix with a flashlight?

I think it may be worse to be buried alive with a flashlight rather than be buried with no light at all....

the REAL reason is so that we can have something to watch at least, in comparison to a black video entirely for that scene... it made the part w/o light even more scary.... if it were dark the entire way, it wouldn't be nearly as good a scene

Ignoring the fact that her oxygen supply would have run out, think of it like this.
1. Bud is a sadistic SOB.
2. Giving her a flashlight lets her see her surroundings, and the psychological horror of SEEING that you're trapped with no way out is even greater than of being in pitch dark.
3. The terror induced as the batteries in the flashlight fade is even greater.

yeap i think you have it!

thats pretty sadistic to giver her a flashlight. seeing the box would be bad.

Agreed. With the flashlight, you see exactly how small the space is you're in and it takes psychological toll I'm thinking.
