Why did Amazon just charge me tax?

I am sure that they have not been doing that in the past. i was charged about $1.85 on a $40 purchase for sales tax

I just ordered yesterday from Amazon and there was no tax added. What type of product did you order?

Are you sure you bought whatever it was from Amazon?

Their website is kind of hard to figure out sometimes. The entire order process looks the same, regardless of if you're buying from Amazon or one of their affiliated stores. You may have bought something from a company that does business there in alabama, thus you had to be charged sales tax.

Oh who knows who I got it from. It was a baby mobile. It sure looked like amazon, but yes their affiliate sites do all look the same...

 

It might have been from some 'R Us store. You probably paid sales tax b/c they have a presence in your state. Sorry, it can definitely be confusing.

The purchase probably went through Babies R Us.
