why diagonals / programs do NOT open in same screen position

Why is it in M/S that when opening a program, the diagonal for the program does not consistently open in the same position that it was located at the last time the program was opened and closed ?

It seems that sometimes the diagonal will come up in exactly the same position but then on other occasions it will not open in the same positioning/place on the screen.

Thanks.

No, I don't think so.

If for instance, you go to start/programs/games/solitaire, and open the game, sometimes the diagonal will open in one position on screen and the next time it may open in a completely different position on screen. There seems to be NO consistency nor reason as to what position it may open in from one time to the next !!!

Thanks.

No, I mean what is a "diagonal"? I think you mean to say "dialog" or dialog box.

I've heard that holding the CTRL key while closing a window can help this, but I don't know if that works consistently.

Please explain your use of the term "diagonal." It doesn't compute. My windows always open in the same place. ??? I can only imagine a line between opposing corners of a quadrilateral entity.

Are you sure you don't mean the dialog box?

Well let's just call it a NON-equaliteral rectangle. Or maybe just a "Window" or "Box", the thing that this O/S uses to show programs or information in.

Does anyone have an answer to my original question ?

Thanks.

In general window positioning is inconsistent. Like I said, you can try holding the CTRL key when you close a program, but there's no guarantee that will help.

Frankly, this is not really an issue for me, but I know it does frustrate at least a small portion of Windows users.

It depends on the program. Some programs are coded to save their last position when they are closed so that they will open in the same position the next time. Some programs are not coded this way, so Windows doesn't know where you want them to be and just opens them in their default position (or the Windows default if the program doesn't have one).

Never a problem if you open full screen. Otherwise, each software package can make its own rules about where the opening window is placed.

As for MS Solitaire in a default window, it always opens for me sort of in the upper left area.
