Why can't you use a toaster oven to reheat some foods?

I recently heated up a frozen chicken pot pie in my toaster oven. I did not notice that the instructions said not to use a toaster oven though, and it burned the crust while the inside was still cold.

Why is there this difference in the type of oven you use?

The top heating element is likely too close to the food and this particular oven likely just blasts the heating element on full until the desired temperature is reached or constantly. You can alleviate this somewhat by using pre-heating, lowering the temperature, see if it has different modes of operation, moving the tray and food lower, covering it, defrosting first etc.

doesn't your toaster oven have a bake feature? Mine does.

I bake chicken breasts and thighs in mine.

You can but don't do it when the chicken pot pie is frozen. If you know you will eat it the following day, take it out on freezer the day before and thaw in refrigerator. If 2 hours before you eat it and still frozen leave it out before you stick it in toaser oven. . I do this all the time with marie callendar and its always hot. Bon appetite!

I thought most not super cheap toaster ovens have a heating element on top and bottom so you can bake and broil? When I lived in a studio was I younger and had no full size oven, I'd cook tons of stuff in one.

I typically back off the temp 25° or so, and leave it in for a bit longer. If it hasn't browned well, I'll finish with a higher temp to brown it.

I think of frozen pot pies as poor people food, so it's rather incongruous to see Madoka talk about eating them.
Have you looked at the "nutritional" info for those things?

The soup keeps spilling through the grill.

There are "artesan" pot pies. My wife buys them

Your toaster oven's heating effect is largely infra red rather than just heating the air in there. So, the surface gets heated faster than the center using a toaster oven. Lately I use TO for toast and to crisp crackers and chips. I tossed my toaster to the curb because the TO does a better job on toast. Maybe not as energy efficient but the toast is more evenly toasted.

As another post mention there are "artisan" pot pies as well as better brands the are larger and tastes better then the cheap pot pies that kids and some poor people eat.

Yeah, but Madoka says he dresses like a homeless person, and he fills out McDonald's surveys with fake codes to get the BOGO quarter pounder, so he's probably eating the cheap pot pies.

Are you rolling eyes at me, or at your wife for buying those? :D
I had thought of frozen pot pies as:

Geez, I don't know how you guys keep dragging me into these arguments. But since there is interest in what I'm eating, I bought two of these:

I actually complained to the parent company and they sent me two coupons: one for a free pot pie and another for $1 off. Since there will be more pies in my future, I wanted to know how not to ruin them.

I guess it's nice of them to give you a free pot pie to make up for your error.

That is 21 year old bachelor food. Whenever a meal is advertised by the pound you know it's not meant for consumption by adults.

Don't you have a wife/girlfriend/boyfriend who can cook for you?

Cheap pot pies are better. I get the ones from aldi, but they're just rebadged Banquet brand. The better ones are bigger, and ostensibly have more "premium" ingredients, but they don't taste better.

In my defense, the warning not to use toaster ovens was not very prominently placed.

Did you see my previous post lamenting the discontinuation of this?

I once got banned because a mod thought I was trolling when I said I shop at the $0.99 Store. But clearly if you've read my posts, I'm only 1-2 steps above dumpster diving for my food.
