I was reading a thread from 2002 and I couldn't reply🙁 why??

A thread from 2002 would be in our archives which do not allow replies.

Yea I was looking "archived" so how would one bring it out of archive? Couldn't they keep it in archive and when it was bumped they could unarchive it?

Nope, if it's archived, it's archived for good.

So that people DON'T reply to 3 yr old threads. 🙂 Just start a new one and link to the old one for reference, if need be.

From a technical point of view, first of all - we're talking about a multiple server environment for the forums.

You move thread data from the server dedicated to 'current' threads to one dedicated to 'archived' threads to reduce the CPU load and space used on the machine being most heavily hit ('current'). You can also probably save some cash by using a lower-end machine for the 'archive' server, since it won't be under the same sort of stress.
