Why can't you open windows and port holes on cruise ships?

Text

Gotta keep the water UNDER the ship! 😛

PSA: Playing a FPS on a rolling ship can make you feel really, really bad. Like the hangover from HELL.

WHOA!!!
what foot waves are those? they look as bad as the ones we felt this past jan... about 14ft swells

They were over 25' yesterday according to ship logs.

Speaking of logs that's what me head feels like right now - smacked with a monster maul.

Luckily we're moving away from the gradient as it tightens. Seas there are over 35' now.

I live in the bay area and we've seen 40ft swells along the coast.

What is it that you are doing to be out there? What kind of ship are you on?

I have not seen much of the ocean but I have physically been all over the north atlantic and Mediteranean. It surprised me to see multiple bags of garbage float past when I was standing lookout watch one of the few times my submarine was on the surface in the mediteranean.

Oh great. That's where we're headed for the next two months. You can find junk everywhere I suppose. And way back in Jan I was concerned over a ping pong ball. 😱

Yeah it's usually in the wee hours in the AM when mistakes happen and that's about all I am going to say. The good news is (it's 04:22 here) the connection is much better now that the aol users are sleeping! 😛

Yeppers. 🙂

Pins cannot connect due to not supporting the same transport.

Can't play it. What does it mean???^^^^^^

Thank you, I did not see that before.

sharkeeper, I have not had the chance to talk with someone who works aboard a cruise ship before. I have a few questions I hope you are kind enough to answer.

How are the ship's officers prepared/schooled for their positions? Are they required to be graduates of the Merchant Marine Academy?

How are the ship's engineers prepared for their positions? Do many of them come from the Navy?

What is the ship's propulsion system? Gas-turbine, 1200 PSI boilers, or something else? I do not believe they are nuclear powered.

Do you ever see the ship's engineers or do they always stay below decks? (You mentioned the ship's logs earlier so I assume you are not an engineer, but I could be incorrect.)

Are the guests allowed to go belowdecks to visit the engineroom if they wish?

If I went on a cruise, I am afraid I would spend most of my time belowdecks in the engineroom. 🙂
