Why can't you lie a plasma TV flat?

I've heard two reasons.

The glass will crack under its own weight.
Something about the gases inside doing something that's not so good for it.

It's basically a window. Its weight is best supported vertically. Carrying it flat puts a lot of stress and torque on the glass.

You can lay them down with no problem. You just don't want to transport them that way.

It never ceases to amaze me the magnitude of stupidity revolving around plasma TV care. I've heard everything from needing to recharge the circuit board (whatever that means) to not ever being able to move it horizontally. It's too bad I missed that memo when I drove 1200 miles with my plasma TV laying down flat in the back of a trailer. Oh wait, it survived just fine.

Don't forget to recharge the plasma gas every two years or the picture gets dull.

You can for some plasmas. According to the instructions that came with my Pioneer tv says you can if you need to remove the attached stand.

When they get shipped, do you think they left it vertical the entire time?...I think not.

PLEASE DO NOT DO THAT!!!! The plasma will leak out the sides and eat away at anything it comes in contact with. Eventually it will eat a hole to China and then leak out in the atmosphere where it will orbit the earth and eat away the ozone layer and contribute to global warming! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Remember to spray the plasma in the right port. My friend accidentally sprayed green in the red port now everyone on screen looks like the Hulk. Noob.

Because the inert gas in the glass bubbles will become too inert. Your colours would not be vibrant. A bit sleepy if you will.
