Won't that encourage more people to vote? Especially of the 18-24 year olds??

If you're too lazy to go to the poll, you don't deserve to take part in democracy.

That would be a security nightmare. Florida can't even get the counts right using conventional methods.

Umm... the day we can vote online and pick our lottery numbers online is the day we would have mass pandemonium and corruption in our society.

haha, I just wish I could've registered to vote online, then I'd have voted the normal way.

Come on now... I'm not a student. I am working full time, and I will have to rush to the polls along with everyone else after work if I want to try to vote. I do care about one or two of the issues on the ballot around here, not any of the people. But if I could vote online from work I definately would. I think a lot more people would vote if they could vote online.

We can't trust the gov't to secure a web server...or manage a mechanical balloting system for that matter. Are we really going to trust them to manage an electronic voting system?

OTOH, such a system would give Rob Rosenberger and Dr. George C. Smith many fun and exciting Osama Bin Virus commentaries to write.

I can see the new wave of cyberterror headlines in 2004: MASSIVE WRITE-IN CAMPAIN FOR SADDAM HUSSEIN TOPPLES BUSH IN LANDSLIDE DEFEAT
And in other news:
--Authorities investigating why there are more write-ins for Hussein then there are US Citizens.
--Hussein spokesman denounces other candidates' protests as 'sour grapes.'
--In victory speech, Saddam promises to work immediately to kick the UN headquarters out of NYC.

The polls are kept open late to accomidate different work loads.
One can also do absentee ballot or if allowed to vote early (in some states).

IMO they should make Election Day a national holiday. Even though the polls are open late it's still a workday and some people are too busy to get to the polls. With the day off it might encourage a higher turnout (which might be bad if you're a Republican :p)

What, the ones who are out of state doing other things? The ones that have to go to the polls to vote early? What's your point?

voting online discriminates againist those that don't have computers or don't know how to use them.

Why? I bet more Republicans have a harder time getting to the polls. They have jobs.

They should import people from arkansas to do the counting for them. Instead of running out of fingers at 10, they'll be able to go to at least 11 before forgetting which number comes next.

Not allowing certain vehicles onto superhighways discriminates against the amish. You're using a computer--what's your point?
