I was a subscriber for a year.

I would like to pay to have no adds, but, someone,:(
decided to not allow me to resubscribe.:brokenheart:

Anandtech used to have adds at the top of the page,
now the adds are on the left side and skew {?sp?}
the whole page smaller, and to the right. The blinking is annoying! :(

I use IE 6.0.
I have cable for internet access.

Thanks for letting me "whine" waaaah.

Lee, cavemanmoron.

if you switch to MyIE2 they have an inbuilt popup/ad blocker

works like a charm, although you still have a bit of white space there

if you use Mozilla/Firefox you can use a custom CSS file to turn off all of the ads on this site. works pretty well, but you'd have to quit using IE. I tried and couldn't stay away. IE is like a drug or something...it just sits there in my quicklaunch bar, tempting me. I swear it sometimes beats up on the firefox icon...

Forum Subscriptions are officially no longer available

We let the cat out of the bag a few weeks ago, letting people know why the subscriptions page is no longer available. This post is the official notice from Anand and myself on this subject.

We started subscriptions as a way to subsidize the rising costs of bandwidth and it was successful in accomplishing that task. With recent changes (advertising) the forums are now a more self sufficient application thus subscriptions are not required to keep the forums active any longer. We will be increasing the forum speed for everyone in the future (TBA), and also implementing a unified feature set for every forum user at that time. We will announce dates/timings once we get near the implementation date.

Existing subscribers will have access to the subscriber server for the duration of their subscription. Once the last subscription has ran out the server will be shut down.

Thank you for your understanding and contributions to what we think is an invaluable resource.

WELL i still do not understand. :(

[First Grade Teacher Hat] Anand used to need extra money to pay for the bandwidth. The extra money is not needed anymore.

If the ads are animated GIF files (on mine it is so I assume it is the same for you), then just hit the stop button once the page is finished loading. This will stop playing any animated gif files/midi files.

If its flash, i right click on it and uncheck play and loop option.

I think he understood that. I think he is saying if people are willing to pay to not have ads then why not allow people to pay for ad-free service.
