I would prefer if we just break a bunch of windows, the growth in the glass industry should be able to put enough people back to work to get us out of the slump 😛

We can call it the Night of Broken Glass Act : p (I realize this is purely nonsensical).

Become bi-lingual, maybe?😀

They don't speak Chinese either, but my Chinese is rusty.

p.s., I had a passenger get off my flight at Miami one day. She stopped and was asking me a question in Spanish. I answered her in Chinese. It confused her. Good, maybe next time she will try English.

A program like the CCC wouldn't work anymore, because they taught those guys skills such as how to make things. Since we don't make anything in the US anymore, there new found skills would be wasted.

I'm not sure if you're aware of that as a classic economics comment.

With you knowing how I post, you really think I'm not aware of the broken window fallacy!

Although recently some economists don't think of it as a fallacy any longer. Damn savers, we'll break your windows, don't invest in glass companies though, perhaps the savers will just buy duct tape since it is cheaper.

Because the "Party of No" doesn't give a shit about working-class Americans or their problems.

Really? Republicans would love to implement this sort of system. It's Democrats who would block it. They love the welfare state, it keeps them in office.

Good question, we have something similar out here in CA

(Love the motto)

A couple guys I went to high school with ended up here.. They weren't exactly college material, but were both able to get on the job skills that enabled them to move on and get "real" jobs.

I wouldn't mind seeing something like this extended to certain welfare programs as well.

My particular jobs program: after you are on unemployment for 13 weeks (3 months), you are offered a CCC job. Take it or receive no payments at all. It doesn't cost any more than what we are already paying. It would employ just about anyone who is willing to work.

Completely agree. Too bad poor people in America are entitled lazy fucks who can only be bothered to get off the couch to cash in their EBT at KFC. How dare you ask them to work!!

If you guys think anyone can execute a CCC program you guys are delusional. It would be branded as a racist program and be compared to slavery.

We know that, it's just that we that pay taxes just don't care anymore. Put them to work. There is no shame in actually working for that government check, or is there?

What makes you think people will show up to a camp vs staying at home to watch Springer?

I have no idea but if they didn't show up for work they would not get a government check. I have this feeling that hunger is a great motivator. I could be wrong.

So a bunch of previously hardworking folks now on unemployment are branded as lazy bastards. You guys are pathetic.

They were previously hardworking, and many still are - if they could find a job.

Many though aren't caring to go back to work right now, and just want to collect the easy 'free' money.

And that's of the previously hardworking. There's many many many more that aren't hardworking at all, that just want the gravytrain to continue...afterall, "it's free"!

No, not at all. I just think that if we, the taxpayers, are going to spend money we ought get a return on it. A CCC type program just might do that.

I bet you think FDR's programs got the USA out of the depression.....you would be wrong.

You are advocating the government directly hire people to do things instead of paying them unemployment. That's a Keynesian approach of creating aggregate demand for labor. One I've been advocating for a very long time.

We can't do anything that would help the economy because it would get Obama re-elected. The people must suffer and blame the President until a Republican is elected

Cementing my theory that you and a777pilot are actually the same person.

okay okay, but why not just skip the part of having Group A dig holes, and Group B fill holes, and let's just have somebody bomb pearl harbor again, and this time, let some other school of economics take the credit, keynesianism has just gotten so blah lately.
