PS3 Slim supports CEC, so as long as your TV or Tuner has support you should be able to 'borrow' their IR.
The only problem is, the PS3 Slim's CEC solution sucks. Try using it for more than 10 minutes to navigate through a BD menu and you'll be reaching for your PS3 controller/remote REALLY quick. It will power on the PS3 with your TV remote, but anything after that is not reliable. I don't think it is so much the PS3's fault, but more the CEC standard which is not consistent across the board. Now my experience was with a PS3 Slim and a Samsung LN40A650, so it may work better with a Sony TV. CEC works best when it is communicating with equipment from the same manufacturer. If you start mix and matching equipment, it could become pretty inconsistent in its operation.
