Trying to listen to mets-padres (yea, i know) at work and the 660AM WFAN online stream has some old repeats of talk shows on. Tunein Radio Pro on my phone is showing the same thing.

I don't get why if I have a 5 dollar AM radio I can listen to the mets, but can't find a place on the internet do the same thing. Its not like I'd be removing the commercials, I just want a live stream of a radio station. Is that so much to ask?

If its already free on the radio then why do they make is so complicated to get it online? I don't feel like paying 20 bucks to MLB for gameday audio... my team will be lucky to win 20 games this year.

Same thing here in PA. Not sure what the deal is. Whenever a sports game is on the OTA radio, they just play music on the internet streaming version of the station.

AM rights to broadcast = cheap
internet rights to broadcast = expensive

MLB's licensing for broadcasts are stupid and terrible and their blackout restrictions are fucked up.

However, you can subscribe to MLB's Gameday Audio service and get all the streams for every game.

I guess that's the obvious reason but what do they care if its on the internet vs radio. I would think their main goal is to get those commercials on as many ears as possible.

It just seems stupid and old fashioned that a radio is required to listen to a game. Its free... just stream it online.

The radio station isn't going to provide additional advertising opportunities to advertisers without getting paid for it.

True but they stream the rest of their programming online already. I also wouldn't be surprised if their morning and midday talk show programs got more listeners than the mets...

I think this is more to do with MLB being a douche than this particular radio station.

That is the radio station's goal yes, but not the MLB. Their goal is $$$ from distribution rights, and internet rights cost $$$

broadcast rights for radio and Web streaming differ sometimes. This occurs in Europe sometimes, so it may occur in the USA also.

I got that last year, it was 15 bucks I think and the AtBat app worked great on my phone. Everyday they have a live video stream of a random game.
Its a pretty good deal if you LOVE baseball.

Because they don't want to repeat Banky's mistake:
Silent Bob said:
Oh, but I think it is... We had a deal with you, on the comics remember, for likeness rights, and as we're not only the artistic basis, but also obviously the character basis, for your intellectual property, Bluntman and Chronic. When said property was optioned by Miramax Films, you were legally obliged to secure our permission to transfer the concept to another medium. As you failed to do that, Banky, you are in breach of the original contract, ergo you find yourself in a very actionable position.
