I am just curious. If PS3 can stream game play audio and chat to bluetooth headset, why can't it stream audio from the system or Blu ray movie or Netflix to the bluetooth headset?
It has been 3+ years that I have been waiting for this to happen, but it doesn't seem Sony PS3 made any progress. Are they even aware that there are some consumers want the capability of having the PS3 streaming audio to their bluetooth headset instead of TV speaker?

Some may ask, Why do I want to stream audio from PS3 Netflix to the blutooth headset?
Well, I have multiple TV in one room (3 to be exact). A lot of the time, the kids want to hang around with me when I am watching TV. Thing get complicated when they are bored with the stuff that I am watching. As for me, I can't stand watching the same Sponge Bob Square Pant episode over a 50+ times either. My solution is the big 60" LCD TV is for me. The 42" LCD TV on the left is for the youngest niece to watch what ever she want on Netflix. As the other 42" LCD, the other niece to play game on the PS3. The one that play game has her own bluetooth for the gaming system. I hear fine from the big screen. As for the youngest one, she complained that my TV can be loud, so she can hear anything from her TV. I don't want to buy a wireless TV audio head set either because they are $70+, big and heavy, and uncomfortable for the kid. I know because I do have one laying around and nobody want to use it. What a messed .

I am thinking of doing a FM transmitter. PS3/TV --> FM audio transmitter--> FM receiver. The FM receiver can be my smartphone since it can receive FM signal Or the Sandisk Sansa Fuse which I happen to have laying around too. Sorry for the lengthy post .

I use the Official 7.1 headset and it works fine. I'm guessing they assume BT headsets are for voice in games and not general playback.

I have seen this a year ago too, but most reviews were referring to game experiences only. Do you know if it work with Netflix or Blu ray movie?

I'm going to go ahead and assume the reason is copy protection. Lots of things we can't do with movies because of copy protection.
