Why can't people today take responsibility for their actions?

Have you noticed that more and more frequently people who do stupid things or make grave errors always try to point the finger o' blame to someone else?

Example: Somebody runs a red light, they collide with another car and say, kill the driver. When the law comes knocking they claim the the Department of Transportation failed to warn him/her that the red light was there to begin with. Ok, this example stinks, let me try another.

Better Example: Man buys gun. Man loads gun. Man leaves gun sitting on kitchen table. Child finds gun. Child hurts self when gun "accidently" goes off. Father sues gun maker, claiming product is "deadly."

These examples are extreme but I hope they get the message across. Heck, I make mistakes daily, we all do, we are gasp, HUMAN! However, there is a mass of people in this world who make a mistake, but find it much easier and convenient to shift the blame. Ever notice this or know of examples of people who can't take responsibility for their actions?

Just like the guy on here the other day. He was caught for the second time driving over 100mph. He wanted help getting out of the ticket. Give me a break.

It's so frustrating to read some of these stories. How about the man that won $3 billion from the cigarette companies? Sure he was about to die from cancer, but how about the heroine and alcohol addictions he also had? Yet some jury or judge awarded him the payoff for some reason that I can't fathom.

Basic self-denial, I guess. People find themselves in a situation they can't handle and therefore must find someone else to blame.

I remember watching some HBO story a few years back where some mother was blaming a firearm manufacturer for not having a magazine safety on a firearm her son managed to kill himself with. Her husband, the kid's father, had loaded the pistol ( a semi), fired it (at a range) with his son present (he was showing his son the new pistol), and then removed the clip without clearing the chamber. The dad thought the pistol was unloaded, and of course it wasn't. His carelessness, including both parents' carelessness in not teaching their son to leave the thing alone, resulted in a tragedy. The parents simply could not accept the responsibility that they had directly contributed to their son's demise. So they lashed out.

Here's another: some lady a few towns over was pulled over by the police by driving her Chevy Mastadon erratically and running a stop sign. Her excuse? The stop sign shouldn't have been there (it was new) and she was on the cellphone. Maybe talk later? No, she said, she had been called by someone else, and it's not like she placed the call herself.

Ya gotta love this stuff.

It's our liberal teachers, press, parents etc... I recently caught a guy who ran a stop sign and mowed a kid over on a motorcycle. The kid lost his leg. The guy took off and left him there to die in a field. When I caught the guy, there was motorcycle parts and blood in his grill. Getting ready to go to court on this one. The guy is denying any involvement. His arguement is I intrapped him and forced him to confess. What are people coming too!

Please do anything you can to convict that guy. How can he live with himself???

I think the guilt would overcome me to the point of me not even being able to function like a normal person anymore!!! :Q

There was a huge one page ad in the New York Times today from some parental group blaming Hollywood for all the problems with kids these days such as guns, sex, VD, etc.

The sad part is that he was kind of a buddy of mine. There was a witness who described the truck that hit the kid. I knew the truck and went to his house. It was kind of sad when I realized it was him. Even worse is he lied his ass off to me and now is blaming me for his admission. Guess you can figure we won't be buddies again time soon.

People do suck, they are never willing to give others a break but yet when they mess up they want everyone else to give them a break...

People would much rather choose to be a victim rather than be accountable for there actions. I will tell you right now, there is no power in being a victim.

Two reasons. First, it's always easier to find someone else to blame for your stupidity. Second, there's an army of leech lawyers out there willing to try the Lawsuit Lottery and the Blame Game. Every time someone cashes in some huge sum because of their own stupidity, it feeds the process even further. I can't blame the lawyers, they are simply doing whatever they legally can. What I can't understand is what the heck posesses people on jury's that award these huge sums for stupidity. Spill coffee on your lap? Surely that's worth a million or two :frown:

sysadmin, I was also thinking about that guy that was caught twice going 101mph on the freeway. I hate people like him. These people go that fast get caught and don't even realize the ramifications for going at that speed. They don't care about their own life or someone else's life for that matter. If I knew the judge or the cop that caught this guy I would have sent him the thread where he tried to get advice to squirm his way out of the fine and license suspension. This guy deserves all the law books thrown at him. He's lucky I'm not the judge because I would ban him from ever driving for life. I admit that no one is perfect but no one deserves to be that stupid.
The thing is that you can't blame the tv or hollywood for all of this. It basically comes down to what you've learned in school/friends and most importantly the values that were handed to you by your parents.

And today, lawyers make that easier than ever. :|

The deomcratic party doesn't allow you to take responsibility for your own actions. It's always "societys" fault.

Neither does the Republican party because its allways the Democratic Party's fault.

This whole attitude starts at home, the way people are raised.
But how do you change this problem in society?

Okay we all know it starts when we are little kids. We all remember if we had siblings or friends around adults or parents and when one of us got in trouble we tried to blame it on the other to not get punished.
