Why can't my system sleep with a second HDD?

With only my SSD in my system for months I never had any sleep problems under any OS. But when I added a second drive for Linux, I found that when I tried to sleep Windows it would just lock out instead.

I've since replaced that drive with another, newer drive = same problem basically, except that now my system will sleep but it wakes itself somehow.

I've already done a clean install of Windows recently to solve another issue, so I don't think my problem lies there.

Any suggestions?

So, does the new hard drive run Linux as well? The Windows power options may be having trouble controlling it.

Type in a command prompt

powercfg –lastwake

It should list whatever woke your pc. I see you have a Samsung 830. Are you using the latest version of Magician Toolbox? If so that will be what is waking you pc and it won’t come up as the culprit in the powercfg –lastwake command
You can validate that by using:
powercfg -waketimers
You can also try:
Powercfg –devicequery wake_armed

Yeah the waketimers command is very helpful to see what things are set to wake up your computer.

By default, Win 8 will set a wake event at 3 am to do "maintenance" stuff. Maybe that's just waking up your computer and something else is keeping it from falling back asleep?
