Why can't my PC output video to a TV

Hello! I have a Gainward CARDEXpert GeForce2 MX Twin View / VIVO video adapter. I've never tried to output video before now. I'm trying to use a 14" color TV as a secondary display (wanted to watch DVD's and later switch to inputing to the PC for video capture). All I get is a very unstable, black and white display. I'm using composite, as that's the only connection the TV has in common with the video adapter. Does anyone know what might be wrong? I've already tried lowering the resolution to 800x600 and the refresh rate to 60Hz.

Thanks!

After some messing around with settings (and a restart that caused the video software to do some setup on restarting Windows), I think I have it figured out, although the letters in windows are not really readable much or at all. Is there any way to improve that, or would I need a better kind of connection?

Thanks again!

A normal TV's resolution is too low to read normal sized computer text. You'd need both a better TV and a better connection for that.

locate the device settings or output device for the TV inside the GeForce tab/display settings. Look for an option that says video output format and make sure its not on auto select. choose composite and hit apply and it should be better
