Why can't iTunes sort by album title???

Question is a little tongue in cheek as I HATE (with the intensity of 1,000 suns) iTunes.....BUT....

My daughter walks up w/ her ipod. Wants the soundtrack from the movie, "A Walk To Remember". (OK, no prob).

Album rips, converts, put in Music Library, but wait........I can sort by 8 ways to Sunday and it will NEVER show up at the top of the sort list. Then again, where it ends up seems to change every time I change the "sort by". Is it that hard?? It's "A Walk To Remember". Really Steve? Version 10.1 & we haven't made this easy yet?

There's no funky properties (it even found the artwork easily enough so itunes knows what it is), no changes made to artis/title/tracks, etc.

Why?? Please, God, why can't it just be simple??

iTunes seems to ignore 'A' and 'THE' in albums titles..... I just tried it and you are right it is kinda annoying!

Huh. Never noticed that, but I rarely look something up by album title. If I'm looking for something in particular, I'll just do a search for it. It's a *lot* quicker than scrolling through the entire collection. According to the NISO indexing and alphabetizing rules, there probably should be two entries, one for "A Walk to Remember", and "Walk to Remember, A see 'A Walk to Remember.'" 😛

*shrug* I always drop "The" and "A" when alphabetizing stuff anyway. Old habit, I guess, so I never noticed in iTunes.

Can't remember the last time I actually sorted my list to look for something in the library. There's a small search box at the top, use it.. If you're only looking for that one album, my guess is its quite a bit faster.

.. because titles are not sorted by the articles (a, an, the) ... not just in iTunes

Ya, that's a good idea, actually. I think my original thought was that it would just put it up a the top if I sorted so it'd be quick but.....no. Not the Jobs way.

I still haven't figured out why it sorts it differently depending on sort pref. If I do by Title, it puts it 2nd to last of all albums (and I have NO idea why cuz it makes NO sense whatsoever).

Then when I go by artist, it puts it at the middle of the list of "Various Artists".....(Whoaaaa?) It's the most insane thing I've ever seen.

The other classic that miffed me last night was when I told my daughter that Hannah Montana or Justin Bieber had to go if I was gonna do another album for her & she opted for HM........ok, great. Wait a minute.......no matter how I sort it, I can't just right-click and delete the entire album. I literally HAVE to shift+arrow all the songs in the album, then delete for it to go away.

Not a huge deal but c'mon.......Really?? We can't do that one either?? We're on mother-!!!@%# version 10.1 and we can't simply right-click and delete an album?? Are you kidding me?? Are you torturing me?? Steve?? Bueller??

Sorry.....again, I just hate the illogic of iTunes so much it pains me.

Just put it in album view and then right click delete!?! Works here 🙂

Probably because you're viewing your music as a list of albums and that album contains music by - wait for it... - various artists.

Yes, I've got it figured out for now, but still.....not very intuitive & never has been. Unfortunately, the alternatives are just that. iTunes owns ipods and vice versa. There's not much we can do except hope that some day, down the road, Jobs will hire somebody to revamp iTunes & make it really simple & intuitive.

One can dream 😉
