Why can't I use my DVD drive to also play games

Well, I have the Nec ND-2500a and this 4X4X24 CD writer that I took from a computer. Well, I know how to set them up, so I put one as master, and the other as slave, and connected them correcly. But the thing is, everytime I put a gaming CD in the DVD writer, it says put the CD in... Yet if I put the CD in the CD burner, it works.. How do I configure it so that both works?

Some games add a reg entry where they look for the original CD, usually it is the CD drive that it was installed from
