Why can't I REW or FF .MPEG files with Win Media Player 9?

thatsright

I can use WMP9 normally with .wmv files and .avi Video files normally. Yet with .mpeg video files I can't use the Rewind or Fast Forward buttons, it will only play straight through. Anyone have an idea of what is causing this restriction in WMP9?

Thanks

It probably has to do with the codec the .mpeg is using I'm guessing. I've had that happen before on certain files as well, but not all .mpeg files. Are you sure it's ALL .mpeg files?

Well no, I don't think it's EVERY mpeg file I try to play, but it seems like about half of them. So is the codec that prevents the file from using FF/REW embedded in the file, or is it part of WMP9?

Thanks

REW and FF as in clicking on the timeline and not having it move? If so, the file is corrupt. You are lucky WM still plays it.
