Why can't I play DVDs on my computer?

I got these DVDs of old movies at the 99c store and they play on my set top player. Is it unusual to have VOB files? Could it be something about my Pioneer 104 drive? The last software I tried was WinDVD from 2001. I still only have XP with SP1. Will SP2 help? Do I need a specific program--or could I be doing something wrong?

My guess was going to be that you're missing the codec, but it should be included in WinDVD.

what is the specs on your computer...if you can see the VOB files on the disk then it is probally not your drive. That would leave it to a codec problem, you might try uninstalling and reinstalling winDVD or powerDVD.
