Why can't I ping anything?

My desktop and laptop can ping each other on my network, however, neither can ping anything on the internet (for example, ping yahoo.com just says request timed out, as does pinging anything else). I can connect to all of these sites fine, but I can't do a ping or a tracert on them.

I tried removing the router from the equation by plugging my desktop right into the cable modem, but it still produces the same result.

Could this be some strange setup at my cable company? Or what else would cause this to happen?

Thanks

Can you ping the sites you are trying to ping from network-tools.com? I get an error "general failure" when I try to ping yahoo.com, so I seem to be in the same boat. The ISP might be restricting ICMP traffic somehow.

Yeah, I just pinged a few sites from there and they all work fine.

I literally can't ping anything from my computers.

Is there some reason they would be doing this? I have a feeling this has something to do with my ReplayTV unit refusing to connect to the internet.
