Why can't I overclock to greater heights?

I have my old system with me here basically composed of:

AMD Athlon 850
Abit KT7-RAID
2 x 256 MB PC133 CAS2 SDRAM
AMD Stock fan

Windows XP Pro

Note: I tampered with the stock fan so that the air would suck hot air out and i covered the openings of the fins with masking tape. In my experience I kept the heat at around 51 C when overclocked to 950Mhz. So I got an office fan and put it right beside my open case and the heat went down to 48 C. Also these temp readings of my cpu are at full load so I guess that heat problems can be left out to answer my question.

Well I just want to get it to boot to the OS at 1000Mhz. That's all. I have motherboard cpu voltage set to 1.850. I did not try to overclock FSB and I even tried to turn off all cpu and memory bios enhancements. All I see is the bios boot and see it at 1000Mhz and wont even boot Windows XP. Either a blue screen or permanent black screen.

Any kinda help would do.

Just have to consider the cpu just wont make that 1Ghz mark...?

But here is a tip on that board (KT7 raid) in the bios up the voltage on the chipset from 3.3 to 3.5 I have the same motherboard with a Tbird 750 running at 1Ghz but it will not make WinME unless I up the chipset voltage but with it increased its rock solid... ;)

that .02 thing...

put a pelter and a water block on it and you will most likely get another 50mhz, no promices though;)
