Why can't I overclock my XP1800?

I have an XP1800 on a Shuttle AK35GTR, 512mb of Micron PC2100 and a 400W PS.

I can't get a successful FSB overclock of more than 5MHz without lockups. I have increased the CPU voltage and the memory voltages to max. I have reduced memory timings to the lowest they would go. Still, I get lockups.

What is holding me back, the memory or the CPU? I know that some CPUs are "at the top of their range" as they come from the factory. IOW a 1.53GHz CPU might be able to do 1.53, but no more. Another same chip might do another 200MHz. This sucks.

Is it my memory? So many folks are running Crucial PC2100 at 150MHz and better...I can't even get 140MHz!

Any ideas?

im running crappy generic ram and i can overclock my AthlonXP 1800+ to 2100+ FSB 147 anymore and it dont boot
i dont know why your comp is locking up but remember when the FSB goes up so does the AGP may be your vidcard try another vid card if u can to test ! and it could also be Operating system im running win2k pro service pack 3
who knows more testing is required by you !

Thanks for the reply. That's a nice OC you have there. What kind of voltages are you running? Also, what kind of memory? I have a Visiontek GF3 videocard.
