Why can't I load up my profile without Netscape crashing?

I don't know why but every time I go to edit my profile Netscape always locks up. I've re-installed both Netscape and Windows with no success. I've also ran countless scandisks and defrags, also with no success. Anyone know what the problem might be? Thanks. :)

Could be a banner doing that. IT's not the forums they work fine in 4.08 here. Netscape is a piece of Yit though.

Muerto -- How much RAM do you have? FuseTalk seems to be quite memory intensive. I used to have that problem when I was on my old 486-DX4 with 16 MB of RAM, Win 3.11 and NS 3.01. Now, it just takes awhile to load, but it doesn't crash, anymore.

Zuni -- I love your work, but I still dislike IE. It's a MicroSuck POS, instead of a NScape POS, but it's still a POS. :(

At first, I thought that opening my profile crashed NS, but actually it just pegged at 100% usage and took a while to actually render the page. The fact that I have a P200 also makes the problem even worse. This happens on a lot of pages that appear to be very complex html-wise, like the frontpage and the webnews.Yet ie has no problems. Any ideas Zuni?

The answer is simple.

IE works because it is part of the OS. Overhead is minimal in comparison because you are always running Windows AND IE at the same time.

Throw Netscape into the mix and now you are running the OS, IE and Netscape.

This is why I like http://www.98lite.net. It strips the IE from the OS. Makes a big diff!

I'm using Netscape 4.07, and I have 128 MB of RAM. Should I upgrade to 4.08? Or would that not make much of a difference? Thanks. :)

Muerto,

No, you should upgrade to IE5. Face it people, Netscape is now eating IE's dust. Hating Microsoft is not justification for continuing to use a clearly inferior product.

Muerto -- No, you should upgrade to Netscape 4.73. It's really smooth, and I like it much better than IE.

jonnyGURU -- Does IE run if you set Windoze not to display as a web page?

Harvey, most people don't use IE with Linux. Please, "Keep it real". ;)

Harvey: No. If you only choose to not view your DESKTOP as a webpage, that only applies to the desktop. On 95B, 95C and 98, the IE is actually integrated into the windows (not to be confused with Windows. Note capitol "W"). If you use 98lite, you can remove the integration.

Russ: I don't hate Microsoft. I find Netscape's mail and news capabilities far superior over anything Microsoft offers and the browser just tags along for "convenience". As far as browsers go, I could give two $hits, really. If I'm in an enviroment where I'm not reading mail or news, I'll use IE in a heartbeat. Bill Gates is not evil. You know who's evil? NORTON! THERE'S an evil person.

Agreed, Norton should be banished from the PC world.

I don't like the mail client in either browser, so I use Eudora.:)

Go figure. It's like during the Cola wars. There's Pepsi. There's Coke. Then here comes Russ chugging an RC.
