Why can't I install Win2k

eP?

Senior member
I'm trying to install Win2k on a new hard disk, but I'm not having any luck. Windows setup says that it can't detect the hard disk. It's an IBM 75 gxp installed on the Asus A7V's ATA 100 controller. Any idea why this wouldn't be working? I also tried creating a Fat 32 partition on the disk to see if that would help, but it doesn't. HELP!!! PLease!!

Take if off the ata100 controller. WIn2k wont detect the ata100 w/o the drivers installed first. Install win2k on the ide controller then install the drivers for the ata100 and then switch it over. Also be aware that there was a known issue with the secondary ide disappearing during the installation of win2k. Get the latest bios, 1004 fixed this issue.

When you first boot off the CD, (make sure you download win2k drivers onto a floppy) press F6 when it says so at the bottom of the screen. Before HDD detection it'll ask you for additional Mass Storage drivers. Put your floppy and and press enter or whatever. Now it should see the ATA100 controller and any drives on there.
