okay here is the problem. i want to run 2k but i cant get past the screen that says "checking system hardware". right now i'm on ME, which runs fine. it looks as though something is not compatible although everything claims to be win2k compatible. here are the system specs:

win ME/office XP
biostar m7vkb
750 duron @ 795mhz
256mb generic ram
4gb maxtor hdd
17gb maxtor hdd
hp cd-rw 12x
floppy
tnt2 32mb pci
turtle beach santa cruz
hauppauge win-tv go
linksys 10/100 nic

any ideas are welcome. thanks in advance everyone!
:)

If it's not too inconvenient - try installing to a freshly reinitialized HD.

If this isn't possible, try removing each of your major hardware components one-by-one. Boot with the W2K CD each time and attempt the install. Hopefully, it won't take too long to find out which component is hanging the installer. When you find it - just proceed with the install, and then install the drivers manually - then put the card/drive back in and hopefully your up and running.

Good Luck... :)

Sounds like a hardware conflict. My recommendation would be to pull out everything except the essentials. (i.e, leave only the video card and network card) then install win2k. Then, add each piece of hardware seperately until you find the problems pieces. It's a pain in the neck, but it works! Good luck!

i think the prob is the tv card, it is supposed to be 2k compatible. is there a chance that i wont be able to use this card with 2k even though its supposed to be ok?

I would worry about getting W2K installed first. Address the compatibility problem separately :)
