Why can't I install the ATI All-in-Wonder?

I have a 3dfx Voodoo3 2000 in the PC currently. I change the video driver to Standard VGA, and reboot. I remove the 3dfx tools from the system and reboot. I shut down the PC, replace the video card with the all-in-wonder. The PC boots up fine and re-installs a Standard PCI VGA driver. I start loading the advanced drivers from the provided CD. It installs everything fine until it gets to the Rage 128 pro driver. It halts with an error and says that I need to set the video driver to Standard PCI VGA and try again. I go to the Control Panel system Icon and check the device drivers and it is set to Standard PCI VGA. If I reboot the Monitor will lose the video signal and nothing will be displayed. I have to put the 3dfx back in the PC to get video. What am I doing wrong?

Remove all traces of 3dfx drivers from the registry also. I guess you have to look for it using regedit. I'd just reformat if that is an option for you....and also remember to o/c the all-in-wonder~

Yeah reformat if you can.

OR use regedit and search for the 3dfx stuffs and delete them.

After set to Standard display, try restart then install the AIW driver, just to make sure. - foolish suggestion.

The problem is mostlikely cause by 3dfx driver reminded on your system.

Sounds like your going about it the right way to me. Before installing the new drivers , my computer, display, settings, advanced, adapter, change, next, display a list, next, show all hardware, next, standard display types, standard display adapter[vga],next, apply. Skip the word PCI. old fashioned install link clean install link
