Why can't I hear anything when I plug a headset into the jack on the CDrom.

Can someone tell me why I can't hear anything when I play an audio CD and plug a headset into the jack on the outside of the CDrom. It seems that this used to work and now it doesn't. I have a burner and a cdrom and neither will output to their headset jacks.
I also posted this in the hardware forum...so your not seeing double...LOL

Urrr... well, let's get the blindingly obvious ones out of the way...

Are you playing back an audio CD?
Are you playing back a non copy-protected audio CD?
Does it work in other CD players?
Have you turned the volume up?
Is the headphone working?
Are you sure you're playing the CD (i.e. not just slipped the disc in the drive)

If any of these work, you might as well go and hit yourself over the head right now with a bat - it'll save others the trouble.

I'd like to clarify something before I get the reputation as being very dumb....I built a computer for someone and he is now telling me this about his computer....so, I have passed these comments on to him. I'm hoping that what you say is the case...that one of those things is the reason its not working.

stockjock: Hmmmm. In that case, perhaps you could do us the same favour by taking a loaded revolver to him and telling him it doesn't work. The chances are he'll look down the barrel and pull the trigger...

r0tt3n1: No, I'm always like this.
