Why can't I get Audigy to install on clean XP install?

I'm having great fun trying to get drivers for an Audigy (original) to work on a clean XP system.

I have tried the AudDriverPack_L11, Aud_WebUpdate_Drv and AUD_EAX4DRV_031031 drivers, and none of them want to allow the card to be installed properly

They all seem to get to copying ksuser.dll then go to the final screen saying an error occurred during installation.

I don't have the original CD for the Audigy, and I've been able to install it in the past without the CD, with what I seem to remember being the same drivers

Any thoughts/suggestions will be greatly appreciated, as this has been bugging me for the past 2 hours!

I'm no expert in this area, but I'd be shocked if XP doesn't already have Audigy drivers included. It's such a big selling, ubiquitous card that everybody and their brother use. XP's driver support is really pretty comprehensive now, I think. I know I just did a clean install of XP Home (retail) on a friend's machine, and it automatically detected his 2 1/2-year-old vid card and sound card without me having to do a thing. I clicked on Device Manager after loading the O.S., and there they were -- model numbers and everything. :)

I'd think the card would be detected automatically by the machine and just work fine without adding any drivers ....

But then what do I know?

Don't answer that. :D

The worst I have seen? Load up drivers and get a message "You do not have a Sound Blaster Audigy installed, setup will now exit"

I finally got them loaded, but it shouldn't have been that hard.

I think I still have the retail cd. Maybe I could make an ISO and you could download it? I don't know where to host it though.

Don't run the Creative installer. Just use the Device Manager/Update drivers, and point to a specific folder containing the drivers.
Use the Audigy2 drivers, (latest version is 5.12.5.522) found on www.station-drivers.com.
(These will work with the Audigy1 card also).

If you guys don't mind me asking what's probably a stupid question, how is it that Windows XP would not already have the proper drivers for a Creative Labs Audigy sound card? XP has so many drivers for so many devices, and the Audigy is such a popular card, so how can this guy be having this prob? Why is it necessary to do anything other than just plug the card in and go?

I was wondering if someone could educate me a bit here. :)

You can contact creative and get a replacement cd for your Audigy...

I just finished installing WinXP pro w/sp2 on two systems. One was a Audigy MP3 and the other was a Audigy2 ZS Plat. both systems had zero problems....
Also did the web update, no problems.

Regards,
Jose

I believe the Audigy came out after XP, but I'm not sure, I can't remember when I got mine. It's hard to include drivers for a product that hasn't come out yet.

It's probably creative labs being dumb, would be my guess. I have a hard time Microsoft wouldn't want to be able to put their drivers on windows update, but creative probably won't let them. I could be wrong though.

Yeah, that would explain it. Although you'd think SP2 would have that covered; but, the orignal poster didn't say whether or not he has SP2 installed, so who knows ....

That would explain it too, if that's in fact the case. And if it is, that would be pretty dumb of Creative.

Why don't these companies consult us before acting?

You may want to try moving the card into a different pci slot and see if it will rocognize/let you load up the drivers
