Why can't I get 3Com NIC's to work!!!

I am having a real rough time with 3Com NIC's. I have 2 different ones. I install them and the drivers without a hitch but when I go to use them with my road runner cable internet connection they won't work. When I use a D-Link NIC I have no problems whatsoever. I'm working with 2 different PC's. 1 Windows 98 and 1 Windows 2000. The D-Link works fine in both but both 3Com NIC's do not function on either PC yet both W2K and Windows 98 say they're installed and working properly? Anyone have a guess as to what's going on? Road Runner came with the 3Com NIC but I can only get the D-Link to work!! Go figure!! This is driving me crazy!! Thanks for any input.
 
if u search around 3com's site, you can find a tight little uninstaller utility that *cleans* all the 3com drivers out so you can start fresh. this might be a good first step
