I have a Westell 327W router/modem supplied by Verizon DSL. On my LAN, I'm trying to transfer between my laptop and desktop but the speed appears to max at only 1.5MBps (12.5Mbps). I looked through the Westell router settings and there doesn't seem to be any options for it. My ethernet properties say it's connected at 100Mbps for both machines.

I've gone into both ethernet adapters' properties and tried forcing 100 Half & Full... no combinations work... auto negotiation is the same result... no luck.

My old Netgear & Linksys routers allowed me to do 100Mbps (which should be around 12MBps)... but this Westell supplied by Verizon won't. I am using the physical ports, not wireless. Any ideas ?

Try another (commercial / store -bought) cable between the router/switch/modem and each machine.

What you describe is a hallmark symptom of an improperly terminated* (or damaged) cable.

* split pair - 3&6

Good Luck
