Why can't I do higher than 60Hz refresh Rate?!?!

Is my room cursed?

1st- I used an old Compaq 17" with radeon 9100 and all I could do was 60Hz no matter on what resolution without the monitor shaking..
Then- I got a new KDS 17" monitor and still didn't work
2nd- My friend brought over his 19" monitor with his computer w/ gf2 but it shaked really badly at my house. But, when he got home, he said it worked at his house!
Also- I went to my friends house and bought a 17" Viewsonic monitor from him and tested it loads at his computer with a GF4 Ti4200. It did 1152x864 @85Hz perfectly
So- I brought it home and couldn't do anything above 60Hz again!
Finally- I bought a ti4200 to make sure it wasn't my 9100 and now, it still doesn't do anything above 60Hz on either 17" monitors i have

Any help? 😕

make sure you don't have any magnetic devices near your computer. Includding unshielded speakers?

That's about all I can think of.. Weird problem hope you get it fix'd and let us know what it was

I'll bet it's Windows XP. Many ppl have had issues with it sticking at 60 Hz. A couple fixes I've seen suggested:

- Set the "Assign IRQ to VGA" BIOS option to "Enabled."
- Look for updated XP drivers for the video card.
- Update the BIOS.
- Switch to Windows 2000.

If you get desperate, go ask the guys on the TweakXP.com forums. They eat, sleep, and breathe this stuff.

could be the monitor or video card im maxed out at 65 but im not even sure why

oh and you should understand that KDS arent the best quality most of the time in the tech world you get whay you pay for

I know KDS is not the best but it should be able to do more than 60hz... as well as the viewsonic which is a very good monitor...

Well, i guess its up to the motherboard's AGP slot now...

This has gotta be pure external interference. Move the monitor around and see where the effect it's the least / worst. Anything with a motor, anything with a transformer can cause this. The device can even be on the other side of a wall.

Good Luck

i have a veiwsonic and am very happy with it i have gotten interference from a power adapter , and a microwave before , but 5 meters seems like a long way but then agian i dunno

Move the computer temporarily to another room in the house? I know you said you tried it at your friends house, but if it works in another room with the same equipment that doesn't work in your room you can pretty much get a definate external cause.
