Why can't I boot from my Floppy drive?

I am trying to install a new 120g WD. It came with a floppy, I need to be able to boot from that floppy. This is what I have done so far.

1.)Tested floppy in Windows2000, both computers I have work and read the Western Digital floppy.

2.)Changed my boot order to make the floppy be the first device.

3.)Disconnected IDE cable to the HD's and tried with same results.

This is what the screen reads

Verifying DMI Pool Data . . . . . . . . . . .

10 seconds later it reads

Cannot load DOS! Any key to retry

Now this happens on both my EPOX and SOYO boards, the Floppy reads in windows but will not boot from it. What gives? Thanks.

i dont know about what's in the floppy..but i would rather use partition magic kinda software...to format and get the partitions.

sometimes the floppy used its own prapriatory software to boot the comp into reading the drive...but once u install that there is no going back for the drive..unless u do a total reformat of the drive..

Lets stick to the "cannot load DOS! Any key to retry" code I am getting, why is that. I just want to boot from this disc.

did you try resetting your bios? the only time i had errors after "Verifying DMI Pool Status" meant I had a bad mb. Sometimes resetting the bios (i.e. jumper on the motherboard) works. hope this helps

well turns out easiest way around this is to have a 98boot disk, if I am running 2000 how can I get or make a boot disc?

use your windows 2000 CD. it is a bootable CDROM--just make sure you have CDROM enabled in your boot sequence in your BIOS.

also, you can go to Bootdisk.com and download a bootdisk making utility for almost any OS.
