Why can't I access bios?

I have been in my bios a hundred times, but for some reason now I can't get in.

On boot it says press F11 or Del to access bios. However it continues to boot to windows even if I hold down or continually press either of those buttons.

What is the deal?

Win 8.1
MSI Z87

Turn off your computer. Then HOLD F11 while the computer is off. Then while holding F11, turn it on. It should then boot up into the bios.

Husky, how do I disable fast boot in Windows?

Grrrr....can't figure it out, I thought that was a bios setting.

Unplug computer, remove cmos battery on motherboard, wait 1 min, re-insert battery, plug pc back in. Turn on, go to bios, adjust settings..

Let us know if you fixed your problem.

No. I don't have any such icon for MSI. I've been through all the power settings and I can't find anything to do with fast boot, I'm pretty sure that setting was actually in the bios.

I'd like to avoid having to remove the cmos battery, but if I can't find another solution.....

This is bizarre, been building my own pc's since 1997 and can't get into my own bios. It's kind of embarrassing.

I believe you want to install Fast Boot, from the MSI site or your driver CD. It should give you the option to toggle it on and off from within Windows.

Tried to install fast boot from MSI cd that came with my mobo, says "MSI Fastboot does not support this mainboard".

Odd, but given that I would say that a BIOS reset is the best option if you really want to get in there.

The amount of time you've taken to read/answer these posts is far more than time it takes to remove battery & fix this.
