why can't computer lab rooms be cooler

I mean if you put 30 PCs in a lab, don't you think you should also have adequate AC flowing? This is stupid to be sitting in a roasty 80 degree room when it's low 60s outdoors. I hate stripping down into my undershirt and rolling up my pants because its too freaking hot

Haha, thankfully they keep the comp lab at a decent temp here, although it prolly has something to do with the fact the AC has been running nonstop for the past couple months and the rest of the building is freezing.

Yea a few CS labs are nice and chilly. I slept thru one night with a sweatshirt and I was freezing.

I'm at the "computing centers" spread through campus designed for normal students who just want to print. They keep it a freaking toasty 80. Sorry, but that's retarded.

I also think it's annoying that people turn their heaters to like 75 or so because its cold outside.

If it's 50 outside it probably means I'm in a sweatshirt and maybe a jacket too. If I come into a room that's 75 that means I need to strip down into a t-shirt. that's freaking stupid. The point of a heater is so you don't die of cold, not so you can enjoy summer indoors when it's winter outdoors.

Similarly, computers are the heater here, so turn on your damn AC and cool it down here.

yeah, one of the labs in the school that I work in routinely will get to high 80s with 29 kids in it. Luckily it has windows in the winter but the beginning and end of the year are scorching in there.

I'm sure it'll be similar here once the first "cold" front comes through soon. As soon as the outside temperature drops below about 65-70, people turn the heat in all the buildings up to 80 and bundle up like they're about to freeze to death. Pretty ridiculous really 😛

Edit: That's the main reason I don't bother wearing anything more than shorts and a T-shirt until it's below about 50 outside.

because college sucks and universities dont care about their students...when working for DoD...any room i was ever in was never too hot or too cold no matter the time of year...with the exception of the datacenter...for obvious reasons it was chilli

I used to use my 1.4ghz Athlon Tbird to heat my room during winter 🙂

Haha, the computer lab at my high school is one of the coldest rooms at school, about 16 Northwood P4 computers and 8 Prescott :Q Celeron computers in there too.

it also depends on where the thermostat is. if it is located in an area where there isn't 30 pcs, it will not be able to compensate for the hot room. And if it is located in the room with 30 pcs it will then be making the rest of the building think it is 80 deg. when its really 60. The only solution is to have a dedicated AC unit for the room.
