Why can't car parts be modular? You know easy to replace - like lego parts?

Yea though they are much more simple machines and are limited in available configurations compared to an automobile.

I had a professor in school who proclaimed that in 10 yrs, you'd be able to order a ford chassis, toyota engine, chevy body, ect when you buy your new car. Modular car...
