I think it would be very difficult for a Jew to get elected President today, but at least it wasnt that way in the Old Republic as there was a Jewish Governor of GA in 1801 (his name was David Emanuel and he was from Jefferson's party as the so-called Federalist Party was anti-Jewish, basically national socialist, and probably would've expelled all the Jews if Adams had remained President).
Could it be that the Roman-Irish immigrants and the fact that the slaves were freed made it so that it would be difficult for a Jew to become President? Was it that the non-property owning masses of the Old Republic were smarter than the masses of today?
