Well, you can eat chicken from a can. Does that work for you?I can eat Beef from a can, why can't I eat raw Chicken?
How is canned tuna made?
From the initial catch until the finished product is shipped,StarKistChicken of the Sea Tuna undergoes rigid quality controls. At each step of the process, we take every care to provide the quality consumers have come to expect fromStarKistChicken of the Sea.
Thetunachickens are frozen while aboard the fishing vessel. Once the boat reaches the dock, the frozentunachickens are unloaded and continuously monitored. Next thefishchickens are thawed and cleaned. Eachfishchicken is individually checked, and anyfishchickens not meeting our standards are removed.
After the initial inspections, thefishchickens are pre-cooked or steamed in large wire baskets and allowed to cool. Both the cooking and cooling processes are carefully timed according to the size and the type offishchicken. Next eachfishchicken is carefully hand-cleaned and inspected once again. The tender loins are cut into fillets and then conveyed to the filling machines that prepare solid-packtunachicken, or to the "chopper" used to prepare chunk-styletunachicken.
Depending on the style, precise amounts of fine grain salt, vegetable broth and water or pure vegetable oil may be added. The filled cans are then vacuum-sealed and cooked (retorted) for a precise amount of time. We do not use all parts of thetunachicken in our canned product; only the light and white color portion of the body muscle and tissue are canned; the offal, heads, tails, bones, skin, and finsare put into our reduction plant to producefishchicken meal and oil.
All canned foods are cooked.
Because the tuna is cooked in the can. It's not raw. Neither are the maintenance workers where they cook it.

Jesus.
Lockout/tagout procedure, especially if not doing it could get your ass pressure-cooked.
Somewhere among the thoughts of "Oh god I'm going to die," there must have also been "This is really fucked up."
I thought raw tuna was purpleish?

That's what I'm saying. In all fairness the maintenance worker that was cooked (Jose) is equally to blame for his own death.
If you work in the equipment maintenance field and do not know what "Lock-out / Tag-out Procedures" are you should probably fine a new venue of work.
And just think of all that fish that was wasted. I am sure they had to dump it.
Seriously. Putting raw meat into a can and sealing it up would be a great way to get botulism.
Bulk tuna vs bulk beef
That's what I'm saying.
The lockout tag is effectively a stronger version of a "please do not kill me" Post-it Note.

Tuna from a can is among the worst smelling so called "foods" humanity has to answer for. UGH I get nausea just thinking about it. I would rather eat raw hamburgers and get ecoli and be sick for a week than eat a can of tuna. The smell, its just so oppressive.

Sure its not spoiled or something? it just smellls like cooked fish to me. Canned tuna is one of my favorites. I even get the canned tuna in olive oil, strain it and dip my bread in the oil for a snack.
