what's the point of buying 875P chipset board when you can get 865chipset board with cheaper price but better performance??????

depends ...

but in my case, it was worth buying the IC-7 (875) over the IS-7 (865)

better marks in every benchmark, higher RAM (HyperX) speeds, stability, everything.

Should mention that I'm using the 1.5 bios

The IS7 and IC7 are exactly the same speed using current BIOSes. It flip flops every time a new BIOS is released. Basically, there is no point in going with an 875P motherboard unless you're looking at a particular great high-end P4 motherboard like the Gigabyte 8KNXP, DFI PRO875 LAN Party, or something like that.

But didnt anandtech showed that the 865 boards such as IS7 performance was better than those 875 boards? did you guys see the 865/875 shootout articles? I dont get it man.

By the way Jincuteguy, using either search or a bit of scrolling would have found you essentially the same question asked last night

If you've read any of the chipset articles you should know the 865 and 875 are essentially the same chip, so the 865 can't be any faster by itself.

One board using either an 865 or 875 could be faster than some other board using either an 865 or an 875. And as Evan points out a BIOS change can improve the performance of a specific board, again either an 865 or 875.

It was a pleasure to setup myself. I had lots of time to test it thoroughly. Other reviewers that I respect seem to agree. The latest BIOSes make the PRO875 even better.

Yes, but by a very small amount that will inevitably change over time as new BIOSes are released. In other words, it's quite pointless to purchase an 865PE or 875P motherboard based purely (or even partly) on its performance compared to other 865PE/875P motherboards.

i must have stupid friends ... no cracks about birds of the same feather now :D

... i'm guessing tht in the 875/865 mobo shootout, the statics weren't from OCed mobos then?

Evan, since this thread seems to have to attention - I recall that u're using HyperX - what speed are they and what timing are u running at, if I may ask?

I have 2 x 512mb of HyperX pc3500 running in dual channel on my IC7

One of them stay slighty warm, but the other one is +ly toasty?!

Neither chipset is better than the other, as I just mentioned. The 865PE may be faster one week while the 875P chipset may be faster the other week. In the end there is no difference, and the little difference that is there you will never notice at any time during the actual use of your computer.

We used Corsair TwinX memory for the DFI PRO875 review. As far as your issue goes, I wouldn't worry about it, unless you're absolutely sure that one of your modules is considerably hotter than the other. If that's the case I'd RMA the memory modules for a new pair.

And no, the stats were from stock operation (overclocked numbers show the same thing, despite what some people at other web sites will tell you ;)).

Thanks :)

Other than ECC compatibility, are there any other differences, however small?

Some1 suggested cheaper materials, but I dont think so :D
