Why buy things that are anti-bacterial?

I just had a thought, lets say there are one million bacteria on a countertop which you then procede to clean with an antibacterial wipe. I suppose a few will still live, those that are resitant to the anti-bacterial wipe, thus you just set them up to grow a perfect population where overtime they will resist your antibacterial wipes? My bio teacher was talkin about somethin like this and thats why he trys to stay away from antibacterial stuff....

Yep, that's one of the main problems with so much anti-bacterial stuff. It isn't going to be long before our current products will be ineffective, and we'll have to come up with new anti-bacterial chemicals.

That is a problem because you then evolve anti-bacterial resistant strains of bacteria. What's an even bigger problem is farmers giving their livestock anti-bacterials so that they will grow larger. This also evolves resistant bacterial strains.

this reminds me of that story about the mom who kept her house almost completely germ free....her kids were never in contact with hardly any germs....until they went to school, then they got really sick because their bodies werent used to the bacteria/germs...the kids ended up getting really sick...kind of off topic but not too bad 🙂

EDITED because I went to public schools

I recently heard on the news that regular hand soap is just as effective against bacteria as antibacterial soap.

What you are doing when you clean your countertops is removing the food that bacteria can live on, you are not sterilizing your whole kitchen when you clean it.

Eventually they'll turn into those big snake things that the bacteria on Spock's coffin thing turned into on the Genesis planet.

Bacteria turn
Into big ugly snake things.
We're all gonna die!
