All the newest motherboards have this AMR Audio/Modem Riser slot on them. Question is what the hell is it used for and where/what gets plugged into it? I have yet to see any hardware that says it plugs into the AMR slot.
you can get a little board that has either a modem or a sound card on it but they are win modems and soft sound cards that use cpu cycles to do the work
they are great for cheap PCs a lot of OEMs are starting to use them
The only good use for the amr slot that I've seen are on boards that place it between the agp and the first pci. Then it leaves enough room to place larger after market heatsinks on vid cards without losing pci slots.
I sorta figured some lame crap went in that slot. Just sitting there taking up prime real estate on the mobo. Well, at least someone here has figured a way to use that space. Thanks for the info.
Its really useful for a cheap winmodem that doesn't take up a precious PCI slot if you have cable or dsl and just need it for faxes and connecting to the net when your service is down.
