Why be gallant?

...shouldn't we give it to them? Now, of course many will say that this is why I don't get laid often enough - I'll give you that.... If we're all equal then why should a guy be expected to pay for dinner? Why should we hold the door open? Why should we go out of our way to be gallant? Now, I'm not saying that I slam the door when a lady is behind me - I hold the door open for anyone... But my cousin recently let a healthy looking woman have his seat on the subway. I didn't get that - why should she sit and he stand? I let old/pregnant people have my seat all the time, but a healthy 40 something year old woman?

I understand how it was in the past - women were paid less or not at all so men were expected to pay for them, women were thought of as weaker so men protected them. Now that we're all equals isn't gallantry kinda dated?

The general consesus is women wanted equality back in the 70's

THEY DO NOT WANT TO BE EQUAL NOW.

They want all of the benefits with none of the responsibilities.
And because of Oprah and Sally they think they can get it.

I'm all for being nice but why be especially nice to a woman? Buy your male buddy dinner next time, ask him how his day was and talk about your feelings with him... Also offer your seat to a random, healthy male the next time you're on a bus/train -since this is all about being nice, after all.

A friend and I agree on a small theory that we've both noticed. That is:

If you hold a door open for a woman the chance of her saying 'thank you' is inversely related to her level of physical attractiveness.

Seems to hold true most of the time.

You shouldn't show manners or be nice to anyone because you expect something in return. You should be nice to people because it's how people SHOULD treat each other. IMO.

I open the door for anyone behind me. I buy dinner for friends (guys and gals), and they recipricate(sp?) by buying me dinner the next time around.

There's no reason to be courteous just for the expectation to get laid, be courteous just to be a good person.

I always say thank you when somebody holds a door for me. 🙁

But not because it never happens-- it's just the nice thing to do.

Oh, and we split the tab for dinner. No reason that the man should get stuck paying for everything when I have a job, too.
