Why Asus u3s6 card is rubbish?

I have seen a lot of threads saying that this card is no good. As it happens I bought one and get the advertised 365 MB/s with my new Corsair performance 3 64GB ssd in atto

the story is different with AS SSD which still gives good seq performance but the rest seems not so great. Also is there something that could help ?

Could someone explain why for example LSI sas/sata3 cards are so much better?

mobo: abit ix38 quadgt
cpu: c2d e8400 @ 3Ghz
u3s6: 1.0.0.1051 marvell driver
the asus card is functioning at the full 5Gb/s speed that the card supports (3rd x16 (blue)slot on mobo) verified by hwinfo32

In my case, the speed was measurably slower on the Asus card compared to the onboard sata II ports. About a 20MB/s difference if I remember correctly. The Marvell chip is the problem I think. This article explains: http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=413&Itemid=38

In the comments they pretty much trash the review and my performance results tell that maybe the chipset on the u3s6 is not all bad, but the drive it self has some issues

anybody else has p3 64gb bench results ?

It's the same as anything else.

You're paying for specialized quality components and the R&D to put it all together rather than using general, off-the-shelf components cobbled together to make a specific product.

Ya get what ya pay for strikes again.

I was about to get this and I made a post on here asking for advice. lol.. this card sucks is what the consensus was.. 🙂

It's not so much that the card sucks its that you shouldn't compare it to an actual raid card because it isn't. This card has the Marvel SATA 6gig chip & NEC USB 3 chip with a bridge chip to interface with mobos in a 4x speed slot. To expect top tier performance from it is laughable. It's only purpose is a quick cheap way to add USB3 & SATA 6gig ports to older PCs.
