Make a couple fat loads a month from long beach, be Centrally located and save big on shipping thoughout USA?

BTW CA taxes suck and they are all there.🙁

a) given the averages, i would think if you were in cali and had half your shipments to the west and east coasts, it would average the same as if you were in the midwest and had half your shipments to each coast. i of course don't know the distribution of computer parts sales. and then you have to pay for the huge bulk shipment from california docks to the midwest.

b) nobody wants to live the fvck in kansas or oklahoma

I can belive that, good one. j/k the first part of a) is the winner I think too.

Sounds right... and as an 'Okie', I agree.

1) There is probablyu a higher percentage os customers on each coast.
2) Much products comes in via shipping containers. Very few ports are located in Kansas or OK.
Therefore is will cost in shipping to get it to the distribution point.

you wouldn't care about paying the CA taxes if you didn't live there yourself, sucker. 😉

FVCK YOU. I live in KS & I like it

Ditto. Life isn't all about pavement, shiny cars, taxes, and socialism like a lot of people on AT from the coasts seem to think.

Yep. Shipping convenience != Geographic center.

Life is better when it's all about corn and fields with corn, and more fields with more corn, and then a farmhouse, then 8 more miles of corn?

If you live in overland park my whole county has less people and it's about 1/5 the size of KS, city boy.

Texas would fit the bill better for a single location, but you really want an east & west coast presence for shipping. That way your shipping to the middle of the country (less populated) and your shipping centers are closer to the popluation.

However, if you want to split it in the middle, I'd go to Texas. Good highways for ground shipping, it's already a hub for FedEx, UPS and AA at DFW.

They are..ME. Actually I've built about 25 for family, friends, friends of friends. I've always done it as a side line but have toyed with building on a full time basis. I can easily compete with the big boys on mid to high end systems but on cheap ass $500.00 rigs I can't match them. I refuse to put cheap/fire sale components in my systems so it costs me extra and puts me a ways out of that class of computer. Plus I test each one for a minimum of four hours instead of just boxing them up and sending them out the door.

Your correct though, here in Kansas we're right in the middle of the US, about 2-3 day shipping anywhere and you can save money on it.

That's why most Kansans/Oklahomans live in a city.

As for the tornado agrument, 99.999% of people in Kansas will never see a tornado, let alone have their house destroyed by one. Even those that have been near a tornado (myself included) don't worry about them too much. Personally, we Kansans feel more sorry for the people on the coasts, with your hurricanes, earthquakes, and blizzards - the damage from one of those is almost always higher than the damage caused by a tornado.
