I'm desperate for answers here so any help would be greatly appreciated. (Try not to be too techinical though because I'm honestly not very knowledgeable with this stuff)

I just bought a DVD-R drive and tried to install it in my computer along with my regular DVD drive. I connected them both to IDE cord 2. I want my DVD-R drive to be the master and the other to be slave. I set both of the jumpers correctly on the disk drives because I made sure to follow the instruction manual for that part. I hooked up the IDE cables as shown in my illustration (very simple really) and connected power cords to each disk drive. After re-assembling my computer, both of the drives open and close however the computer fails to recognize either one of them. It shows me as having no optical drives at all. I tried to change them back as they were and still nothing. I used the IDE cable that came with the disk drive...still nothing. I made sure all the cables were plugged in securely...yet again, I am told I don't have any optical drives connected. What's the problem??? Any input is greatly appreciated as I'm really ready to take a hammer to this stupid thing. I don't understand how I could've messed up when the illustrations and connecters are clear as day.

Thanks

Well, it seems that you're doing most things right.

Specify all your equipment here to get better assistance.
What was the situation before you had a problem?

- Check with a new IDE cable.
- Use the 1st IDE plug on the cable for your Master drive.
- Try running them seperately (try each as Master)

If that doesn't work, then try attaching one of them to your IDE1 cable (disconnect a hdd if you have to).
This is not a good way to run opticals, but it will tell you if you have a problem with your IDE2.

Try CS (cable select) on both drives. I think you need an 80 wire IDE cable for that to work, not sure. If that does it you select master/slave order via which connector on the cable you plug it into.
