I have a very similar system to yours, I have

Asus P4P800 deluxe
P4 3.0C
ATI Radeon 9700 pro AIW
2 * 512 Corsair XMS (running at 2-3-3-5, with mam enabled)

I'm able to get 16400 in 3dmark2k1. I would assume taht your setup should get a higher score, or atleast a similar score.

Yeah, I'd guess we would get a similar score if not mine being a little less because the 9800 Non pro is the same as the 9700 Pro except in AA and AF situations. But you ahve more RAM and a faster cpu. Thanks though, I'll keep your scores in mind.

Now I score 5138 in 2k3 and 16,569 in 2k1. Does that seem about right? Many people have higher scores so I'm guessing I should still be able to go higher...

"Many people"? Does that include the MadOnion result browser?

If so, don't bother concerning yourself. Lots of those people overclock and turn all settings (like LOD) to the absolute minimum. Sure, it looks like crap, but the bragging rights is all they are after.

Your system is performing outstanding. Now go spend your time playing games, instead of concerning yourself with a benchmark. :)

I hardly ever play games, but I benchmark constantly. And it's stupid not to turn off AA, AF, Imagine Quality > Performance and Mipmap>Performance... when benchmarking. Btw, I just reran 3dmark01 and scored a 14,700. That's w/ a GF4 ti4400 @ 300/600.

It's not about playing games, it's about knowing that you COULD play games. heh.

I agree, don't put stock in what some of the real high scorers post. There are mods to allow higher scores, and you have to wonder what anomalies they get. Your 2k3 results seem low still, you might try bumbing your VAGP and/or VDIMM slightly and see if you get any improvement. Also, I'd really recommend Rage3d Tweak to get that little bit extra out of your 9800. I wouldn't change my VAGP if you run 3d Tweak.

EDIT: The bottleneck in your current rig is almost certainly your video. Try running CPU-Z to make sure your memory is running dual channel
They're right about the artificial nature of the benchmarks. I only use them as an o/c tool, not as a standard for comparison of gaming performance. 2k01 scores seem about right.
