Not so fast. I want to see if everyone can articulate it in no more than 3 sentences. No political rhetoric. Simply why you vote for a specific party.

If you're independent that counts too.

Sorry foreigners but this is probably less complicated if we keep it constrained to the US system.

I don't vote for a specific party. In my voting life, I've voted for Dems, Repubs, and independents/third party candidates. These days, I mostly vote for third party candidates even if they have NO shot, just because I'm completely sick of the Big 2 (and their core constituencies), and I want to send a message, however pointless that may be.

I vote republican because the democrates have failed to emrace the religious and the social conservative, the 2 groups which would seem to be more in line with their communistic tendencies than the social liberal ideals they actually do embrace.

I vote for the best candidate possible, because voting for the lesser evil is still voting for evil. Fuck the parties.

One sentence left over.

Everyone will have the same answer (except for the resident partisan hacks). People vote for a particular party because at least the core beliefs of the party fall in line with personal beliefs. I tend to vote more Republican because I believe in a smaller Federal government and one that is fiscally conservative. I believe the government should only provide services that a private company simply cannot do (i.e., not compete with a private company in the overnight delivery business).

Of course, parties don't always follow their core beliefs and pander to whatever base keeps them in power... but voting for the only other remaining political party isn't a good option.

I'm a registered Democrat and tend to mostly vote Democrat because I'm very socially liberal and relatively left-center on economic issues. And I believe that Democrats best support that combination of views. Even counting 3rd parties, socially liberal/economically left-center views are generally best supported by Democratic platforms.

I generally vote Liberal Democrats because my Dad ran as a Liberal Democrat, I won't be voting for them next time though.

I don't vote based on issues which aren't even relevant such as abortion, gun rights, and gay marriage. I find that to be a silly way to vote and a distraction that politicians use to get you to not notice unemployement, healthcare, education, and other issues. I vote with my pocketbook and that has generally led me to vote Republican but now I consider myself Independent since both R and D are dumb ass parties for dumb ass people.

I'm a registered Republican because I was a lifelong Democrat and wished to express my extreme dissatisfaction with their increasingly progressive behavior in a manner that would affect them, total registration of Ds versus Rs. I typically vote Libertarian because while I generally hate the Republican Party a bit less than I hate the Democrat Party, I generally hate the Libertarian Party even less. I don't really agree with any of the parties on a clear majority of issues.

I vote for or against individual candidates, not political parties. I'm not a registered member of any political party.

LMFAO the Republican party has been the total OPPOSITE of these values you cherish for the last 30 years.

Same here. I vote based on which party I agree with, and it changes from time to time.

Right now I'm mostly liberal because the conservatives seem to be getting crazier and crazier as the population ages. Here we have 3 main parties and they seem to go by age bracket. The young people who don't understand how the world works vote for the far left party, working adults with kids vote for the middle party, and the people who no longer have kids living at home vote for the far right party. My party is the middle one at this time.

Do you work for a newspaper? MSNBC? CNN? A George Soros media subsidiary? Kinda left out the part...

Americans are addicted to the government teet. Our budget and debt reflect this. Republican politicians know this. If they start doing what really needs to be done, after being labeled racists, they would be out on their ass the next election cycle.

1. Systemically and without much variance at all, only a Democrat or a Republican will win an election.

2. A vote for a third party is wasted and one less vote the better of the two parties will get allowing the potential for the worst candidate to win.

3. The Republican party is filled with assholes whom we would all be better off if they were dead.

4. I vote Democratic for these reasons. The logic is ineluctable and sound. No intelligent person would allow the greater of two evils to win. But those who can't deal with reality will vote third party anyway because they fancy themselves too pure to vote for any kind of evil, even when it's the best one will actually get. Stupid pride is what that is.

There is an argument for not allowing the greater evil to win.

There is also an argument for not helping either evil to win.
