Hey guys. I'm running a duron 1.6, with 512 RAM, GF4 graphics etc.. but wmv files are practically unwatchable. I tried googling the problem, but didn't come up with much. Any ideas? I'm using WMP9.

Put a XP in it already;)

I don't have an answer for you. Have all the windows updates installed? Maybe try opening them with some other program, not sure what works best. Seems like they are all spyware infested pos freebies lately.

Are you suggesting he's viewing a particular type of file? For shame! :)

WMV sucks, that's all there is to it. I use Media Player Classic, which you can get with Quicktime Alternative or Realplayer Alternative. Available from many download locations. I think it's a modified version of Windows Media Player 6.4, but not sure. I know it runs better and is less intrusive.

Did the problem just start?

Haha. Thanks Skip ^_~ No, I realized it when I put the duron/K7VTA3 combo in my system. I don't want to spend much money right now, as the duron works for my Ragnarok online, and recent starcraft addictions. I figured the chip could decode WMVs though o_O. I do have all of the latest windows updates. Not too sure about codecs. Never had a problem with them running on slower chips though so I'm scratching my head.

.wmv files tend to be streaming audio rather than something you download from the site and play locally such as a .mpg or .avi file. imo windows media player sucks and i change all my file types to use the old mplayer.exe in windows xp or i just use windows media player 6.4 on 2k and other systems. the issue might be your internet connection speed and having your .wmv files buffer too much....

I read somewhere that wmv's that played well in Win 98 could play choppy in Win Xp and the solution was to run them through windows XP movie maker.Hope this helps.
